Alternative Learning Classroom

Ratiweientehas (la-dee-whyen-deh-dus)
Mohawk word meaning ‘They Are Learning’

The alternative learning program is designed to provide support and services for students with difficulties attending main stream high schools. We can accept up to 8 students. This program is developed to address each student’s individual academic, social, and emotional needs. It is run in collaboration with the Grand Erie District School Board.

Students are supported by a Grand Erie District School Board teacher as well as the Classroom Counsellor. Our goal is to transition the students back to mainstream school with tools that they may not have had in the beginning. Our classroom counsellor supports students upon arrival, at discharge, and for follow up when back in mainstream education.

Students also participate in culturally enhanced programming which includes elder visits, Haudenosaunee cultural teachings, traditional songs and dance, ceremonies, crafts, and workshops.

Enrollment Requirements:

  • Must be a client of a Ganohkwasra program
  • Must be high school age
  • Must have exhausted all other resources at home school
